Unlike other fitness training arrangements, you do not need to commit to one or the other (group or individual training) from the start. At the initiation of your training, you may want assess and improve your basic skill level before joining a group. Alternatively, you may trust that we will always be there to guide you and elect to join a group right away. We are happy to accommodate any decision you make and, even assist you in making that decision. We integrate our values of hard-work and perseverance, and our foundational approaches of injury prevention, rehabilitation, wellness coaching, strength/conditioning, weight loss and adaptive fitness into our group and individual training models. PERSONAL TRAINING As named, fitness training is a deeply personal endeavor, rooted in the unique and upstanding decision for self-improvement. Our clients come to us by way of life changes, small and large, that force them to confront the current state of their health or performance. At Cavanaugh Fitness we do not take that trust exchange lightly. Your steadfast trust is one of the many reasons why we made injury prevention a foundational practice in our training model. Clients come to us with an array of weakness and injury, new and old and we take a thorough review of these injuries before we train. We know that even the most season fitness machine may experience wear and tear on their body that makes more intense training a precarious undertaking. Not only do we discuss weakness or injury before hand but we conduct thorough and frequent scans of you body’s movements and response to stress throughout the workout. We may hone in on a weak muscle group by observing your physical reaction to a new exercise. Your reactions help us to further tailor and customize your workout so that we can have strength/endurance building and safety in mind. At Cavanagh Fitness, we believe the more you know, the better you are. This is especially true as it relates to prevention of injuries. Our training sessions, therefore, are part physical demand, part education. Sure, it’s fun to be the expert but our greatest desire is that one day, you will not need us any longer because you will have mastered the concepts of safe and efficient workouts. With that goal in mind, we seek to educate our clients during and after sessions. We may share small amounts of information on muscle groups, efficient exercise and pre-workout diet suggestions. As you learn more and show mastery over your own training, we will provide more information. The education of our clients happens in a graduated, customized way; ensuring that each client knows only what they need to in order to meet their specified goals. INJURY REHABILITATION Our highest joy in professional life is helping our American warriors recover or gain the strength and endurance their body boasted before their service commitment to our country. Relatedly, total body rehabilitation is a worthwhile and favored professional-activity when we train any category of client. Muscle atrophy can be a natural part of the aging process but we know that attention to strength building and a healthy diet can offset the aging process significantly. As your personal trainer, we consider it our responsibility to educate you the how and why of injury rehabilitation. If your body has sustained a break or tear, more often than not, muscles surrounding the injured area have go into overdrive to compensate for a weakness. This is part of what makes our bodies incredible machines. However, the overcompensation can lead to further pain and injury. We work slowly and methodically with this injury and subsequent overcompensation phenomenon in mind. We ask that our clients communicate to us all prior injuries and attempts at recovery. We can then rest assured in knowing that we are building you a comprehensive and safe recovery plan. There are instances when we do not discover that we are rehabilitating someone until we begin training them. This is a frequent occurrence and part of the reason we made injury rehabilitation a foundational practice of our training, even when working with clients who do not have or report a previous injury. WELLNESS COACHING Once hired, we are (first and foremost), your personal trainer. This means that we will help you create and/or meet fitness goals in the gym, anywhere from 1-3 times weekly. Our second, and arguably equally as important duty, is that of your Wellness Coach. Interestingly, we find that this second part of our job is what really bolsters our client’s enthusiasm and continued commitment to their goals. We are often asked why personal training with us is a worthy investment and how it compares to the free training sessions offered to anyone who joins a gym. When asked that question, we always refer to this category of wellness coaching. A complementary trainer may show and educate you on the gym machines and some exercises to target a specified problem area but only a trainer with wellness coach intentions, will recall and prioritize your individual goals, as well as text you on a Sunday to remind you of them. We know how hard habit change can be and how getting back to fit can discourage someone enough to almost quit. As your wellness coach, we are one step ahead of these negative concerns and we will equip you with extra mental motivation before the workout fatigue even arrives. We will remind you that it takes 28 days of abstention from bad habits to make a good one and nudge you along when you falter on day 15. GROUP TRAINING On some occasions, our trainees come to us as a group; a friend or family team. This is an incredible decision for several reasons. The first is that a group of familiar people act as an added level of accountability for you as the client. Motivation and will power naturally wax and wane but adding family or friends to your fitness goals build in an extra level of support or competition. This type of loyal support will keep you moving forward when sore muscles threaten to take you down. The benefits of group workouts are also apparent in the actual group dynamic during gym sessions. Group members, related or not, always rise to the occasion of supporting and cheering one another. This compliments nicely with the trainer’s typical encouragement and brings an added dimension of support for our clients.
